About my working and business life
Nostalgia Shop
This is where my work transferring and restoring of old media lives. (Previously carried out under Aureola Productions.)
Nostalgia Shop has been operating in this manner since about 2010.
Aureola (pronounced or-ee-o-la) Productions
Starting in about the early 2000s I worked extensively under this name transferring and restoring films, videos, photographs and sound recordings. But much earlier than this I carried out production and post production work in film, video, audio etc.. All this and more is still carried out under this name and will continue to be. You may visit the Aureola Productions web site here for more information.
The very earliest phase of Aureola Productions was begun by myself and my parents in the late 1960s mainly producing Super 8mm documentary films and audio visual slide and sound presentations. Much of that original film is in the archive and will be restored as time and resources allow.
Vortex Media Promotions
I also established myself in the early 1970s working in stage production, stage lighting, public address, sound recording, general electrical and electronic installation and repairs.
Aureola Productions and Vortex Media Promotions have always continued in some form since the establishment of each.
During this period I gained extensive experience in new and emerging audio visual technologies. Some of the older equipment I now use for the recovery of past media I acquired back in these early days and I have kept it all in good working condition since.
My (other) working life
All started in the mid 1960s in electrical and electronics trades in industrial control systems and more and more into many diverse areas of multimedia technology. I only recently relinquished my Electrical Contractors License and I am thankful for the knowledge and experience gained in my earlier working life.
Technology progressed at a rapid rate from the 1980s to around 2000. I then developed a strong interest in emerging digital audio and video technologies plus I pursued my passion to preserve older equipment to provide for the recovery, restoration and preservation of recorded material in older formats. A case of merging the old with the new.
I am always looking at new developments in the recovery of older media. Aware on the one hand of the difficulty of accessing older media, for which reproduction equipment is rapidly becoming difficult to obtain, as well as being aware of the sophisticated technology available to digitally restore those recordings.
Lots of media memories are stored in boxes somewhere just waiting to be retrieved and restored for you and the next generation.
